Happy 2016

Hello there! So this blog is pretty redundant these days. I'm posting all my news and pics over on twitter and instagram.
But just wanted to say a Happy New Year to all!
This is a selection of what I've been up to over on instagram during 2015.

Happy 2015

Wishing everyone all the best for 2015! I've got exciting creative things ahead for this year which I'm looking forward to sharing!

The story behind my string drawing.

Detail of String in Trees

Whilst on holiday in Istanbul in September 2010, we went on a day trip to the island of Büyükada on an incredibly overcrowded ferry. I spoke to a Turkish lady sitting next to me who said that we were very lucky to have come today as it was a "special day". As we made our way with the crowds up the steep path we watched as people lay coloured threads along the side of the path, amongst trees and bushes all the way to the top of the hill where there was a small Church and stunning views. It was only later that we discovered we'd managed to stumble across a pilgrimage that happens on two days a year. Each colour string representing a different wish or aspiration. This drawing was inspired by that day and I think it's a memory that is likely to appear in my work for a long time to come.
This drawing is available as a print from Whistlefish Galleries.
And it is also my current twitter header. Twitter name FionaWoodcock.

New Prints

These are some images I enjoyed working on earlier this year with my agents at Bright. I'm pleased to say that they are all now available as giclee prints in-store and online at the Whistlefish Galleries. You can see the whole set here.

Yes No Maybe.

At the end of last year I indulged my love of geometric colour and painted a new more involved No and Maybe to complete the set. They are all available to buy as digital prints from East End Prints.

Pearly Queen Screenprint.

I'm happy to announce a new screenprint edition of my Pearly Queen design. This design started out as a small gocco printed card and I'm really pleased with how it has translated into the larger format. It is a limited edition of 50 and available in my shop. To help kick off the Festive season, all UK Special Delivery postage is FREE!

Pearly Queen is also being sold by East London Prints who are launching it at The East London Design Show. At the Truman Brewery, 5-8th December.

Judith Kerr

There was a very inspiring documentary on a couple of days ago about the life and work of the writer and illustrator Judith Kerr. These are frame grabs, showing details of beautiful early textile designs. Hitler, The Tiger and Me is on BBC iplayer.

I hope I'd be a bit like her if I get to 90.

Cards at Smug

Whilst I was working at Lupus Films last year, I often walked past the beautiful windows of Smug in Camden Passage Islington and made note to contact them about my cards. I'm very pleased that they are stocking my Valentine's card. Above you can get a sense of the beautifully arranged shop and their Guinea Pig logo and a selection of their Valentine's gift ideas, all available online including my card.

Cards at Frank

In their own words: "Frank is a place to find the best of British graphic arts, design and craft. Frank is a place for prints and for fabrics, for books or badges. For the collectible and the ephemeral, for things to see and for objects to own."

Frank in Whitstable had been on my radar as the perfect stockist for my cards for a while before I printed my first cards and got in touch. I'm grateful for their continued support over the years.

The top three images (courtesy of the Frank website) give you an idea of the beautiful shop front, our shared love of stripy bags and their varied products.
The final image captures the paraphernalia involved with sending off my card orders. The recent package to Frank included some new Valentine's cards.

The Snowman And The Snowdog

Time to explain my lack of blogging over the last 9 months. I've had the pleasure of working on 'The Snowman and The Snowdog'. The fully hand drawn sequal to Raymond Briggs' The Snowman. The TV premiere of the film is on Christmas Eve,  Channel 4  at 8PM.

Merry Christmas!

instamatic pictures

Following on from my last blog about my Grandpa's instamatic Kodak camera on things&people, here's a few of the random pictures I took with the camera. This was at a time when it was still easy to buy the film and get it developed.

THINGS & PEOPLE

I'm pleased to have shared a story about my Grandpa's old Kodak Instamatic camera on the wonderful things&people blog.
See both photos and the story here.
